This trip to Japan was my third with a bike since 1995. Things have changed a little but essentially, the unique culture and landscape remains the same. This trip was for the Single Speed World Champs (SSWC) in Hakuba, Nagano prefecture on the main island of Honshu. I decided to ride to the event via some areas I had travelled previously and catch up with some old friends.
LAX, it's 6:30am, I clear customs and find my bike box waiting for me. My first time to the US, what to expect?
By way of introduction, my involvement as the YRMTB representative for Warramate was prompted by discussions with Mitchell the trail builder who has built great trails but is not able to maintain them himself, single handedly (unfortunately trail fairies do not exist!). A system whereby volunteers could do maintenance openly, that is not ‘under the radar’ was needed. The issue up til now was that the trails weren’t ‘official’, and thus we needed to liaise with Parks Vic to gain permission to do maintenance in the reserve.
There has been loads of talk and movement around the existing Warburton Trails since our last newsletter. I'm going to try and condense everything that's been going on into a "short" report.
There are some current developments in the ongoing proposal for a MTB trail along the Aqueduct.
